How do I Apply to Become a Notary Public?

Applications for Notary Public Commission can be obtained from the Secretary of State in Annapolis, Maryland or you may download the application at the Secretary of State's website.

Once the application has been submitted and approved, you will be notified to appear before the Clerk of the Circuit Court at 129 East Main Street, Room 108, Elkton, Maryland, 21921, to take the oath of office and receive your Notary Commission. There is an $11.00 fee due at the time you take the oath of office. Cash, check, money order or credit cards are acceptable – checks and money orders should be made payable to the Clerk of the Circuit Court. How do I Get an Authentication of a Notary Public?

Authentication(s) may be obtained by mail at 129 East Main Street, Elkton, Maryland 21921, or in person in Room 108 at 129 East Main Street, Elkton, Maryland, 21921.The Clerk of the Circuit Court for Cecil County authenticates a Notary Public from Cecil County only. The fee is $1.00 per authentication. Effective 1/1/15 add additional $2.00 mail handling fee per written request. Cash, check, money order, or credit cards are acceptable – checks and money orders should be made payable to the Clerk of the Circuit Court.
