Joan W. Williams, Clerk of the Circuit Court
An employee of the State court system since 1973, Mrs. Williams began her career as summer help for the District Court at the Hyattsville Office in Prince George's County. There she was trained in criminal, traffic, accounting, and courtroom procedures. In 1975, she moved to St. Mary's County and in 1977 was hired by Circuit Court Clerk, Mary R. Bell Miles. She continued in the criminal, civil, and courtroom areas, was designated intermediate supervisor in the civil section, trust clerk and handled appeals and expungements. Most recently she was supervisor of the criminal and jury sections, until her election to the position of Clerk of the Circuit Court for St. Mary's County in 2006.
Mrs. Williams attended West Virginia University, University of Maryland, and graduated from Frostburg State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1973. She is active in the volunteer system in St. Mary's County and an Emergency Medical Technician/IV Tech running with Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad. She is an instructor through University of Maryland/Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute, teaching the Emergency Medical Technician program. She lives in Hollywood, Maryland with her husband, Stanley, her daughter, Elizabeth Knight, and dogs, Spike and Gizmo.
Mrs. Williams' goal is to ensure accurate information is delivered to all customers in a prompt and courteous manner.
