Media Advisory
Cecil County Circuit Court Offers a “Day in the Life” View of a Problem-Solving Court

(ELKTON, Md. – Dec. 7, 2011) On Tuesday, Dec. 13, the Cecil County Circuit Court is inviting state and local elected officials, business and community leaders, and members of the media to observe a problem-solving court in action and discuss the program’s role in the community.

Problem-solving courts respond to the underlying problems that bring certain people into court – drug or alcohol addiction, mental illness, and/or family or personal issues. Cecil County Circuit Court’s rigorous drug treatment court combines ongoing judicial oversight with intensive treatment and supervision. Participation is voluntary. The program identifies appropriate participants and places them under ongoing judicial monitoring, drug and/or alcohol testing, and community supervision in combination with long-term treatment services. National research shows drug courts are successful and cost effective for dealing with drug-addicted offenders in the criminal justice system.
