Registration Opens for Judiciary 3K Family Peace Walk:
“A Walk for Peace in Our Communities”
(BALTIMORE – July 12, 2012) Registration has begun for the Maryland Judiciary’s second annual Peace Walk, a free family-friendly, 3K walk around the Baltimore Inner Harbor that will be held Sunday, Oct. 7, 1-4 p.m. The event is hosted by the District Court of Maryland Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Office and the Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office (MACRO) to raise awareness about the variety of services people can use to peacefully resolve conflicts within their families, neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, houses of worship, and other organizations. The event also celebrates International Conflict Resolution Month.
Open to families and walkers of all ages, the 3-kilometer (1.8-mile) walk will start from the Inner Harbor’s Rash Field next to the Maryland Science Center, 201 Key Highway, Baltimore. Check-in begins at 1 p.m. with music, games and other activities. Information tables will highlight organizations in Maryland that offer conflict resolution services, such as mediation, community conferencing, conflict coaching, and other ADR services. Parking is available at Rash Field.
After Chief Judge Robert M. Bell of the Maryland Court of Appeals kicks off the event in a brief opening ceremony, walkers will stroll along the promenade to the Pier 5 Lighthouse and back to Rash Field. Walkers can also take part in a scavenger hunt and look for clues along the course to win prizes at the end of the walk.
Walkers who register by Sept. 21 will get a free T-shirt and tote bag. After Sept. 21, T-shirts and bags will be available on a first-come basis on the day of the walk.
