Clarence M. Mitchell, Jr. Courthouse to Reopen
Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at 8:30 a.m.

(BALTIMORE – May 17, 2016)  The Clarence M. Mitchell, Jr. Courthouse, 100 N. Calvert Street, will reopen to the public tomorrow, Wednesday,
May 18, 2016, at 8:30 a.m.

The Baltimore City Department of General Services (DGS) has notified court officials that operations may resume again in the building.  Circuit Court staff returned to the Mitchell Courthouse today to prepare offices to open for business on Wednesday morning.  The Mitchell Courthouse has been closed since Wednesday, April 27, due to damage caused by a fire that occurred on the evening of Tuesday, April 26.

“The scope of work undertaken by DGS and its contractors has been truly remarkable.  An extraordinary effort has been devoted to restoring the courthouse to functionality,” said Baltimore City Administrative Judge W. Michel Pierson.  “Our judges, clerks, and staff have shown great dedication and flexibility as we have strived to continue to offer crucial court services to the public.  We are also grateful to jurors and people who have business with the court for their patience and understanding during this time.”

Individuals who have received notices to report for jury service on May 18 or later should report to the Mitchell Courthouse.  All Clerk’s Office operations normally conducted in the Mitchell Courthouse, including business licenses and marriage licenses, will return to their usual locations, with the exception of the Criminal Division of the Clerk’s Office, which normally conducts business  in Room 200.  Room 200 will remain closed temporarily due to the need to install new carpeting.  The Criminal Division will continue to operate in Room 451 Courthouse East, where it will receive motions, expungements, and new cases.

The Sheriff’s Office is fully operational and will be located temporarily at the Domestic Violence Unit, 111 N. Calvert Street, Room B-1, until further notice, with the following hours of operation:

  • Main Office/Fines and Costs: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 410-396-1155
  • Domestic Violence Unit: 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., 410-396-7201
  • Eviction Unit: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., 410-396-7412

Any further updates will be posted under “Latest News” on the Maryland Judiciary website, www.mdcourts.gov, and on the Baltimore City Circuit Court website, www.baltimorecitycourt.org.
