DISTRICT COURT JUDGES SPONSOR
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
ANNAPOLIS, MD (May 2, 2003) – Although
budget constraints caused the annual meeting of the Maryland Judicial Conference
to be cancelled, the judges of the District Court of Maryland elected to
personally fund a one-day educational conference to be held on May 9.
The conference will be held at the Robert F. Sweeney Courthouse in Annapolis
from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The District Court judges felt strongly about the need to meet once a year
for this educational opportunity, and offered to pay their own way.
District Court of Maryland Chief Judge James N. Vaughan was impressed.
“I am proud of the enthusiastic response of the judges of the District
Court for their willingness to participate and share in the cost,” Judge
Vaughan stated.
The day-long event encompasses a wide range of topics. The subject
matter includes updates on interim orders and the District Court’s alternative
dispute resolution program; a new case update; contracts, chambers work/affidavit
judgments; and the bail review process.
Conference attendees include District Court judges from across the state
as well as retired judges who are subject to recall.
Media representatives are invited to attend, and cameras will be permitted
upon request. To obtain a copy of the proposed agenda, or arrange
to attend, please contact the Court Information Office at (410) 260-1488.
