Court Allows Lawyers Temporarily Displaced by Katrina to Practice Law in Maryland (Annapolis, MD — September 30, 2005) The Court of Appeals filed an order yesterday that permits lawyers displaced by Hurricane Katrina to continue to practice law while temporarily residing in Maryland. Following yesterday’s open hearing, the order went into effect September 29. “When we received the initial request from a displaced attorney seeking permission to practice in Maryland, the Court of Appeals asked the Rules Committee for a recommendation. The active support of the Maryland State Bar Association, coupled with the thorough work of the Rules Committee, provided the Court with a recommendation that was adopted unanimously,” said Court of Appeals Chief Judge Robert M. Bell. For details, see the Rules Order at http://www.courts.state.md.us/rules/rodocs/ro15-1.pdf. For more information, please call the Court Information Office at 410-260-1488. # # # # # |
