Traveling African American History Exhibit Installed
in Courts of Appeal Building

(Annapolis, MD — June 6, 2006) A traveling exhibit depicting the journey of African Americans from slavery to freedom to political representation in the U.S. Capitol is on display through June 29 in the lobby of the Robert C. Murphy Courts of Appeal Building in Annapolis. On loan from the U.S. Capitol Historical Society, “From Freedom’s Shadow: African Americans and the United States Capitol” features a series of informative, illustrated banners.

The Courts of Appeal Building is open to visitors from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday; from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

The exhibit is made available through the efforts of the Maryland Judiciary’s Human Resources Department, with assistance from the Maryland State Law Library.

After opening February 2006 in the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture and traveling to Georgia, the exhibit will also be shown in the District of Columbia, Virginia, and Maryland.
