Wicomico County Sheriff’s Deputy Honored for Drug Court Efforts
(SALISBURY, Md. — Jan 13, 2010) Deputy First Class Melanie Mansfield of the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office has been recognized for her work with the Wicomico County Circuit Court drug court. Mansfield received the Enrique S. Camarena Award from the Maryland, Delaware and District of Columbia State Elks Association. The award honors the top officer in the State of Maryland working in the field of drug awareness.
Mansfield received the award on Jan. 5 during a meeting of the Wicomico County Council, which commended her for her “professional commitment and steadfast dedication to provide assistance within the drug court.” County Executive Richard M. Pollitt, Jr., also congratulated Mansfield.
“Deputy Mansfield has been an enthusiastic and involved part of the drug court since it began here in 2005,” said Wicomico County Circuit Judge Kathleen L. Beckstead, who presides over the drug court dockets. “She is a key member of our drug court team, and we are very pleased that she is being honored in this way. I cannot emphasize enough how essential law enforcement is to the community supervision component of our program. The participants report that she is a positive influence for them.”
