Talbot County Circuit Court Offers a “Day in the Life” View of its
Problem-Solving Court
(EASTON, Md. – Sept. 16, 2011) On Monday, Sept. 19, the Talbot County Circuit Court is inviting state and local elected officials, business and community leaders, and members of the media to see its problem-solving court in action and discuss the program’s role in the community. The media is invited.
Problem-solving courts respond to the underlying problems that bring defendants into court—drug or alcohol addiction, mental illness, and/or family or personal issues. Talbot County Circuit Court’s rigorous drug treatment court combines judicial oversight with intensive treatment and supervision. Participation in the program is voluntary. The program identifies prison-bound offenders and places them under ongoing judicial monitoring, drug testing and community supervision, coupled with effective, long-term treatment services. National research shows drug courts are successful and cost effective for dealing with drug-addicted offenders in the criminal justice system.
