Baltimore County District Court Judge Robert Steinberg received the Earl J. Plumhoff Professionalism Award from the Baltimore County Bar Association.

Cheryl L. Jamison, director of MACRO's Maryland Program for Mediator Excellence, has become president of the Association for Conflict Resolution, a national organization for conflict resolution practitioners. She has been on the ACR board since 2009. Jamison is also an adjunct professor in the Negotiation and Conflict Management Program at the University of Baltimore School of Law.

The Circuit Court Clerks’ Offices of Allegany and Washington Counties were recognized by the Maryland Charity Campaign (MCC) during a luncheon for MCC coordinators in March. The Allegany County Clerk’s Office received an award for “Most Improved Participation Rate among Small Departments.” The Washington County Clerk’s Office and the office of the Washington County Register of Wills were presented an award for “Highest Participation Rate among Small Departments.”

Retired District Court of Maryland Chief Judge Ben C. Clyburn was invited to take part in a White House forum about “Increasing Access to Justice” in April. Participants discussed current public-private partnerships and pro bono initiatives designed to help increase access to justice for low-income Americans. The non-partisan event included senior officials from the Obama Administration and leaders from the legal community.

Judge Clyburn is the 2014 Robert B. Yegge Award recipient from the American Bar Association, which is given in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the field of judicial administration. He was also awarded the Maryland State Bar Association’s H. Vernon Eney Endowment Fund Award, which recognizes excellence in the law; bar leadership; community leadership; and enormous capacity for work.

The Maryland Legal Services Corporation Board of Directors awarded Judge Clyburn the Arthur W. Machen, Jr. Award for “extraordinary service in Maryland by providing legal representation to the poor or by improving the civil legal services delivery system.”

Anne Arundel County Circuit Judge Alison Asti, Harford County District Judge Susan Hazlett, Court of Special Appeals Judge Michele D. Hotten, Baltimore City Circuit Judge Julie Rubin, and Maryland Access to Justice Commission Director Pamela Ortiz were named to the 2014 list of Maryland’s Top 100 Women by the Daily Record. Judge Asti was inducted into the Circle of Excellence for having been honored by Maryland’s Top 100 Women three times.

Baltimore City Circuit Judge Kathleen O’Ferrall Friedman; Baltimore County Orphans Court Judge Theresa A. Lawler; Emmanuelle Regine Francois, Executive Director, Maryland Professionalism Center, Inc.; and Veronica P. Jones, Legal Counsel to the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals, have received Leadership in Law awards from the Daily Record. The award was launched in 2001 to honor outstanding work being done by members of the Maryland legal community.

Howard County District Judge Pamila J. Brown received the Advancement of Public Understanding of the Law Award from the Maryland Bar Foundation.

Steven P. Lemmey, who served as Investigative Counsel to the Commission on Judicial Disabilities until his death last year, was honored by the Maryland Bar Foundation, which awarded him the Advancement of Public Service Responsibility Award (posthumously).
