Audubon Collection: Robin

Robins

Plate 50
Havell CXXXI

Robin

(Turdus migratorius)

Audubon drew the familiar robin three times—first in New York in 1807, next about 1822, and finally at Great Egg Harbor in New Jersey on July 2, 1829. The 1829 painting is reproduced here. The caterpillar, which an adult is feeding to the young, was finished in Havell’s engraving. The branch belongs to what appears to be a chestnut oak (Quercus printus).
