Information about the Law Library

  • Located in the Basement or “B” Level of the Circuit Court Building.
  • Telephone: 410-638-3467.
  • Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., and after hours with permission.
  • Open to the Public.
  • The Librarian is on the premises Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • The Law Library is closed on Court holidays.
  • The premises of the Law Library are ADA accessible.

Role of the Law Library

The Harford County Law Library originated in the Eighteenth Century as a subscription based “Bar Library” by and for local Judges and Lawyers.

Today, the Law Library is fully open to the public. The primary role of the Law Library is to provide services not only to judges and  attorneys, but to provide legal information and information services to paralegals, students, government officials, and other and citizens who reside in Harford County. 

The Law Library recognizes the central importance of knowledge and information to not only the practice of law, but also the need to provide access for county residents to the laws that affect them and, and to assist the public at large in locating materials held in the collection.

Collection: Computer-Assisted Legal Research

The Law Library provides access to the laws and cases of all 50 states and the Federal government, either through print or through computer assisted legal research.  The Law Library has four computer terminals dedicated to legal research. Westlaw is available for legal research. Internet Explorer is also available generally for legal research on the internet. Microsoft Word and Corel WordPerfect are available for word processing.
