Audubon Collection: Bonaparte's Gull

Image of Bonaparte's Gull print

Plate 145
Havell CCCXXIV

Bonaparte's Gull

(Larus philadelphia)

“All three birds in this plate were drawn separately; then Audubon pasted them onto a background and filled in the tail and lower body of the bird at center. The young gull in the foreground probably dates from after 1830; the adult birds were probably painted in Louisiana about 1821. The lower bill of the bird at top has been torn away.”
