  Anne Arundel County District Court Celebrates Drug/DUI Treatment Court Graduation

(ANNAPOLIS, Md. – May 10, 2016)  May is National Drug Court Month.  On Thursday, May 12, Anne Arundel County District Court Adult Drug and DUI Treatment Court participants will celebrate their graduation with family members and friends.  It is the 19th year that the program has celebrated National Drug Court Month with a graduation event.  The media are invited to attend.

With Anne Arundel County District Judge Thomas J. Pryal presiding, keynote speaker Lt. Governor Boyd Rutherford will address the graduates and guests.  Program alumna Amber Simms will be the guest speaker.  After the graduation, a reception will be held for the graduates and guests.

The rigorous drug and DUI (alcohol) treatment court program combines judicial oversight with intensive treatment and supervision.  Anne Arundel County’s drug treatment court began in 1996.  The program for DUI infractions was added in 2005.  More than 1,000 people have successfully completed the Anne Arundel County District Court program since it began, with 75 percent remaining arrest-free.
